Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 10, 2025

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website https://beenposted.online and use our services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Service.

Information We Collect

  • Personal Data: Personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, that you voluntarily give to us when you register with the Service or when you choose to participate in various activities related to the Service.
  • Trial Abuse Prevention Data: To prevent abuse of free trials, we may store a cryptographically hashed version of your email address. This hash is not reversible and is used solely to detect repeated trial signups.
  • Content Data: Any text, documents, or other content you submit, upload, or check using the Service ("User Content"). We process this content solely to provide the similarity checking service.
  • Usage Data: Information automatically collected when you access the Service, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times, and the pages you have viewed directly before and after accessing the Service.
  • Authentication Data: If you choose to log in using a third-party provider like Google, we receive authentication tokens and basic profile information (like email and name) as permitted by the provider's policies and your privacy settings on that platform.

How We Use Your Information

  • To Provide the Service: We use your account information to authenticate you. We use your submitted Posts and the Generated Content Data to perform the core similarity checks you request.
  • To Secure and Maintain the Service: We use collected information to secure your account, prevent abuse, and ensure the reliable operation of the Service. This includes using hashed email addresses to prevent repeated abuse of free trials. Usage information helps us manage resources and enforce limits.
  • To Improve the Service: We may analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns (e.g., frequency of checks, common issues identified through error logs) to understand how the Service is used and identify areas for improvement. This analysis does not involve reading or analyzing the *content* of your Posts.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We minimize data sharing. We only share information with third parties when essential to provide the Service:

  • Infrastructure Providers (Supabase): Our application backend, database (where your Posts and Generated Content Data are stored), and authentication are handled by Supabase. We rely on their robust security practices. Your data is stored securely within Supabase infrastructure.
  • AI Analysis Provider (OpenAI): To generate summaries, topics, aspects, embeddings, and similarity explanations, we send the text content of your Posts (or derivatives like summaries/topics/aspects) to OpenAI's API. According to OpenAI's policies, data submitted to their API is not used for training their models by default. We transmit the minimum information necessary for the analysis.
  • Billing Provider (Paddle - If Applicable): If you subscribe to a paid tier, we use Paddle to process payments. In this case, necessary billing information (which may include identifiers required by Paddle) is shared directly with Paddle according to their privacy policy. We only store minimal subscription status information linked to your anonymous user ID.

We will NOT share your Posts, Generated Content Data, or any identifying information with any other third parties unless strictly required by law through a valid legal process. We do not sell your data or share it for marketing purposes.

Data Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your information. For trial abuse prevention, we only store a hashed (not plain) version of your email address, which cannot be reversed to reveal your actual email. This includes using secure infrastructure providers (Supabase), enforcing database-level security (Row Level Security) to ensure users can only access their own data, secure authentication, and encrypting data in transit. However, no system is 100% secure.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your Posts and associated Generated Content Data only as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.

  • Post Deletion: You can delete individual Posts or all your Posts at any time through the application interface. Deletion removes the Post and its associated Generated Content Data from our active database.
  • Account Deletion: You can request deletion of your entire account via the 'Delete Account' option in your Account Settings. Upon your verified request, we will initiate the complete and irreversible deletion of your account. This process includes removing your authentication record, all submitted Posts, all associated Generated Content Data (summaries, embeddings, topics, aspects), and any other data directly linked to your user ID from our active systems, subject only to overriding legal obligations for data retention.

Data may persist in backups for a limited period before being permanently removed.

Your Choices and Rights

You have the right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you. You can manage and delete your Posts directly within the application using the provided interface. Account deletion is available as a self-service option within your Account Settings. For updates to your account information (like email) or if you have other questions about your privacy rights, please use our in-app contact/feedback functions. Depending on your location, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or higher age as required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.

Cookies and Analytics

We do not use analytics or marketing cookies. Only essential cookies required for authentication and session management (via Supabase) are used. No third-party analytics or tracking is implemented.

For any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please use the contact form available on our website. We do not provide a direct email address; all inquiries must be submitted via the contact form.
